There’s been a long time since chalkboard walls became an interior design trend and all of a sudden many people were lusting after black walls in their homes. Well it was about time for me to add my two cents to the entire thing. And let me tell you that I’m no different than those ‘many people’ I mentioned above. I love black walls and I love them even more if the black is achieved with chalkboard paint! And it’s not even necessary to have chalkboard walls for writing on them, in fact I like them more when they’re so perfectly clean and sharp, the sophisticated look of a wall covered with chalkboard paint says a lot about the modern and screaming style of the owner (all in a good way, of course). There’s something regal and absolutely breathtaking about chalkboard walls, right? And if you feel the limit is exceeded with chalkboard on all the walls then one chalkboard black wall will work perfectly good, giving the room a subtle and very appealing look.

Even a bathroom looks stunning with chalkboard black walls! And what’s the most surprising is that none of the rooms feel dark, right? Seeing the inky black of a 3 coat chalkboard paint (they say that three coats of paint are the best for that perfect chalkboard wall) it’s quite unbelievable how airy and crisp the room feels! And as much as I adore everything white-cream-light neutrals, a black wall (or even 4 walls) speaks right to me at the moment!

This is something I have wanted! *sigh* One day…… I love the umbrella!
The thing people need to remember is that if you actually want to use the wall as a chalkboard, the wall needs to start out really smooth or you’ll need to do SO many coats and sand in between all of them. If it’s not smooth enough, it’s impossible to wipe clean with an eraser.
I have to agree with Christa. I love the *idea* of them but the execution is difficult. I do love large swathes of chalkboard paint though, in the right application. I’m loving this today: http://www.whipperberry.com/2010/11/tutorial-chalkboard-menu.html
thanks so much for featuring my dining room. i do love this paint (rust oleum’s chalkboard black). it’s really nice and matte!
That last shot is top die for with the bathroom ….
I never tire of this! Love these, especially the last room!
I so want a chalkboard wall in my home someday, and Victoria’s are some of my favorites. Her home is so gorgeous.
I completely agree. In fact, I sang the praises of chalkboard paint used in children’s spaces just last week! There is something so strikingly beautiful about a black interior wall. Thanks for these.
