Would you use these two in your home, together? I’m not a big fan of concrete when it comes to living spaces, the coldness of this material makes me shiver when only thinking about it. Of course, the wood warms things up a bit yet I still feel I wouldn’t put concrete floors in my home (plus who needs so much gray color?). I do like how concrete and wood look though – one has to be real bold to have the combo in his home.

I LoVe the way it looks here, although I do agree with you about it seeming cold. I prefer my home to be more tactile.

I don’t think I would use concrete in my home, no. Not because of the ‘look’ of it – I actually really like the look! – but it’s more the concept of concrete that scares me; concrete just seems so… final. It has the inescapable quality, once installed into a space, that I’m sure is a positive for many designers and homeowners, but seems, to me, to be so rigid. I love the fluidity and evolution of design and interiors, and concrete simply seems to end this beautiful process.
I adore your blog, by the way! – inspiring and interesting, and so beautiful. Thank you!
I may have given second thoughts to a concrete floor until I was able to see one firsthand. The keys? Handrubbed wax surface. And in-floor heat. Warm feet. Always. *swoon*
Hi Ludmila! You picked a great example of a home that makes concrete surfaces look elegant and inviting. I think the color of the concrete makes a big difference, like the warmer beige in the bedroom photo.
Although a heated floor is probably a must, or at least plenty of nice rugs. :)
We have only concrete floors in our home, and I have a love/hate relationship with them. They are fabulous because we live on a farm with three boys, and they can do anything, spill anything, ride anything and the floors still endure (save droping a hammer). The boys also have asthma, so since moving in, they sleep much better. We do have radiant heat, but rarely use it. Ours are stained a beautiful brown/black color and they look so pretty when they have been freshly washed – there’s the rub… I have to clean daily cause every speck of dust shows quickly… ugh.
