Color+Inspiration: Gold+Brown

Today I got another crazy idea about a color combo: gold & brown. I said crazy, because again, hard to find inspirational pictures. And believe me I *really* tried. I just like it a lot, it’s warm and cozy and reminds me of things I love: chocolate, luxury (love it maybe a bit) and romantic, comfortable bedroom. But why was so hard to find images? Was it because I just discovered a new color combo that is stunning or because gold & brown can’t go together?! For me this mix of colors it is stunning, I feel warmth whenever I think of it and since I trust my feelings a lot, I’ll dare to think that golden combined with brown isn’t *that* crazy! What do you think?

Scandinavian Love

Let’s talk about Scandinavian style, shall we? I love this style lately and today I finally sat and did the much-needed research about it as I didn’t know *that* much about this. They say ‘sharing is caring’, so I will share with you! Scandinavian style is referred more  to Sweden, Norway and Denmark and was created by Carl Larsson. The main features for Scandinavian style is that they have high ceilings, big very big windows which allow lots of sunlight in and the best what describes this style is the expression ‘natural & neutral’. Natural, light colored wood floors and furniture, neutral colors: all shades of white and beige, with pops of red (or another bright color) just to break the excess of light colors. I love sunlight, so the big windows are what I’m opting to have in my future home, also I love a crispy white interior (did I prove this to you yet?) – I guess that would be enough for moving to Scandinavia, wouldn’t it? Here’s some inspiration:

Lucas Allen Photography

Lucas Allen is a young photographer, born in Melbourne, who now lives in New York. He started his career at the age of 21, shooting ever since people, interiors, fashion industry and still life. And as would Julia Child say, his photography is “the  butter to my bread and the breath to my life”. Some of you may be wondering why do I blog so much about photographers, stylists and decorators and I perfectly understand why you’re asking this. The thing is that  while ransacking through the beautiful portfolios of talented photographers, I learn the art of taking good quality pictures (you probably know that I love photography and would consider it as my hobby) , so it is a sort of lessons I take every time I prepare the pictures for an article to blog about. The same is happening with interior stylists and designers – this is a great way of learning about interior design, as well as getting inspired by the work of great artists. So, I would like you to know one thing: every single photographer, stylist, decorator or designer I write about on CreamyLife is a great source of inspiration to me and a good example to follow! So is Lucas Allen and here is his work:

I said trend because I’m seeing it more and more lately: painting the walls of the room, except one which will be wallpapered. And you know what, friends? The idea is fabulous and let me explain why (based on one example):

Decorating with mirrors

I love mirrors, don’t you? There is something mystical about them – 1. you see your own reflection, but  it’s like there are two different people or 2. they make a space look bigger! Imagine a mirror wall – that room is like endless! So besides the traditional sunburst mirror, they can be used in more ways and that’s what I’m gonna show you now.

Have you seen mirror tiles on a wall? Looks fantastic! Not overwhelming at all!

Interior Stylist Lotta Agaton

Another Swedish talented artist of interior design is Lotta Agaton. After working several years as a managing editor for the Swedish magazine Residence, Lotta started her career as a freelancer working with clients both in Sweden and abroad. You should definitely visit Lotta’s site and blog to her check  portfolio (it’s in Swedish, but it can be easily translated into English). I like how she is playing with the styles, adding to a dramatic room a touch of romance – impressing to me as I always thought mixing styles isn’t *that* easy! Here’s is what I highlighted from the amazing portfolio of Lotta Agaton!
